Mission
Statement
The Drainage and Sewer Control Committee
is made up of volunteer residents whose
mission is to identify and investigate
the quantity of storm water which may
lead to drainage, waterway, and sewer
problems that affect the City of Macedonia
in conjunction with EPA mandated quality
issues. The committee will work to identify
public and private responsibilities
while making recommendations for improvements
and informing the public.
Calendar
of Events
Currently, the DSCC is in communication via email and does not have any meetings planned. If you have an issue or a concern, please contact Dennis Mulac.
What's Happening Now?
The DSCC and associates have developed a way to fund the capital improvements to remedy storm water issues that affect Macedonia. The goal is affecting most amount of people at the lowest cost. Our current focus is centered around what NEORSD is doing and how they affect the residents of the City of Macedonia. However, due to the economy, the DSCC has decided to communicate via email instead of meeting.
Why
is this important to you?
Storm water affects everybody in the community
in many ways.
- Water
entering sanitary sewer lines
- Sanitary
sewer backup in your home
- Standing
water on your property
- Streams
that form during heavy rains through
your property
- Erosion
of property
- Blocking
roadways due to high water levels
- Water
entering home
- Cracks
in foundation walls
- Reduced
property value

Although
this list is not exhaustive, all these reasons
cost you money and causes headaches. They
may not be a problem now, but eventually
it will become a problem for you if it is
not dealt with immediately.
You
may live in a house at the top of a hill
and you actually don’t have any
of the problems listed above, so why should
you worry? The answer is in the resale
of your house. When you want to sell your
house, or when your house is being appraised,
houses that are similar around yours are
located and compared against yours. If
that house has water issues, which lowers
its value, then that will lower the value
of your home, even if you don’t
have these issues!
Macedonia
has a history of major storm water problems,
and they aren’t getting better!
New developments, old and undersized sewer
and storm water lines, blocked culverts,
leaves on the storm drains, etc. all affect
the accumulation of storm water and removal
of storm water in the community.
Why was the Drainage &
Sewer Control Committee formed
The
Drainage & Sewer Control Committee
was formed in response to the flooding
received during the summer of 2006. Although
June, 2006 provided Macedonia with major
flooding across the region, it has always
been and will continue to be a problem
that plagues the entire city unless something
is done. A group of residents was selected
by Mayor Don Kuchta to be a part of this
new committee because of how these residents
were affected during the summer rains
of 2006. The focus of this committee,
as directed by the mayor, is to deal with
the quantity of storm water that can ultimately
result in property damage and loss of
property value. This committee works with
Mayor Don Kuchta, City Council, the Service
Department, the City Engineer, DOES, Civil
Engineers who specialize in storm water
issues in a city, and residents of Macedonia
to come up with solutions on how to deal
with our storm water and sewage issues.
