The City of Macedonia is a Charter City
with a Mayor/Council form of government.
Under this form of government Council
represents the legislative side of government
and the Mayor represents the administrative
side.
City Council consists of six members elected
from the city at large. These members
serve 4-year staggered terms. Municipal
elections are held in November of odd-numbered
years. The duties of Council include adopting
the annual budget; enacting legislation;
confirming appointments by the mayor and
generally establishing basic policy for
the City.
Council
meets for its regular Council meetings
the second and fourth Thursdays of the
month at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
Special meetings, committee meetings and
work sessions of Council are scheduled
as needed. In addition to these meetings,
Council may hold a public hearing on a
number of subjects such as zoning and
the annual budget. All meetings are opened
to the public. Those interested in speaking
to council during a regular meeting of
Council may do so during the public comment
portion of the meeting.
The legislative record and minutes of
Council are in the office of the Clerk
of Council.
Information with regards to Council's
meetings is posted outside the office
of the Clerk of Council. A tentative agenda
is posted 48 hours prior to Council's
regular meeting. Council offices, Council
Chambers and the office of the Clerk of
Council is located on the first floor,
east wing of the Municipal City Center.
Official action by the City Council may
take the form of an ordinance, resolution
or motion. An ordinance is a municipal
law which can only be amended or repealed
by adoption of another ordinance. A proposed
ordinance requires three separate readings,
on three days unless Council waives its
own rules. A resolution may be used to
express City Council policy, direct certain
administrative or legal action, or express
a public Council statement. A motion is
verbal instruction for an action.
