Macedonia History

In the early 1800's a young man named Henry Woods came across a stream he named Indian Run. Some years later, a man named Abraham Cranmer from Northfield purchased 90 acres of property near Indian Run at the intersection of Jenkins and N. Bedford Roads. Macedonia has a mayor who serves a four-year term and 6 Council members at large who also serve four-year terms.

The Police Department has a staff of 22 full-time and 2 part-time officers plus dispatchers. The day-to-day operation is supervised by the Chief of Police, a Lieutenant and 5 Sergeants, as well as a Detective Bureau.

The Fire Department is staffed with 7 full-time and 17 part-time paramedics/fire-fighters. The fire rating for insurance purposes is 5.

The City of Macedonia is a full service community with its own Building Department City Engineer, Building Inspectors and Zoning Inspector. It also has a full-time Service Director and Service Department with 14 full-time employees who maintain the roads and provide services to residents including free leaf pickup.

Macedonia is very fortunate to have one of the largest city owned parks in the State of Ohio, with over 350 acres of walking paths, playground areas, picnic areas with shelters, ball fields, soccer fields and lake. Additionally, the park has a Natatorium with swimming pool, meeting rooms, etc.

Macedonia is also affiliated with the Nordonia Hills Chamber of Commerce.
