Congratulations to Fire Lieutenant Paul Celinski…
Paul began his employ with the City of Macedonia in May 1990 as a part-time Volunteer Firefighter. On July 28, 1996 Paul was appointed to a full-time Firefighter. On August 28, 1998, Paul was then appointed to a Full-time Fire Lieutenant. This year he will be celebrating his 27th year servicing this community. Paul stated what he likes most about his job “is helping others”.
Paul has also been actively involved for the last 20 years as the Lead Advisor to our Fire Youth Explorer Program. The Explorer Program is designed for young adults ages 15-21 years of age interested in learning about a career in Fire service. Explorers assist with virtually all routine tasks in the community and around the fire station, including community relations, fire prevention, equipment and station maintenance and training. These qualities will benefit them not only in fire service careers but also in future endeavors. The program is designed to encourage and promote accountability, community involvement, communication skills, teamwork, fitness and the development of leadership skills.
Paul has traveled with the Explorer group to multiple area fire departments, local sporting events and such places as Columbus, Indianapolis, Pennsylvania, New York City and to Washington for a 911 Tribute trip as part of their educational experience.
If anyone knows Paul, his services also extend into various funding raising efforts and community outreach efforts such as the Firefighters annual Halloween Party, Pancake Breakfasts, the Santa Delivery Program and annual Casino Night. All fund raising efforts and proceeds go to various youth programs, baseball teams, the Ascend high-school Program, or helping those organizations or individuals most in need at the time. This year some proceeds will assist the Veterans Memorial Park planning efforts.
Paul is happily married to his wife, Jackie. They will be celebrating their 30th year anniversary this August. Paul and his wife have 3 children; Amanda 27, Rebecca 26, and Paul 22. Paul enjoys hunting, fishing and traveling with his family to Tennessee where other family members reside.
Paul is very proud of the City’s Regionalization effort. He stated “it is a new era and a new beginning for the region.” He is proud we have a Class 2 Fire rating (Class 1 highest to achieve). Fire Departments are rated nationwide on call times, how long it takes them to reach areas, coverage area size, area water pressure, the presence fire hydrants and their maintenance and fire training, are just a few things they look at. This overall quality rating and performance can affect the cost of your home and business insurance premiums.
In Paul’s spare time, he recently accepted a position as Lead Fire Instructor teaching at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center. Paul also serves on CVCC’s curriculum advisory committee and established the Fire Academy.
We are very proud to have Paul on our Fire Department. We congratulate him on all of his accomplishments, his dedication and his passion for the City.
