Congratulations Employee of the Month…Steve Plata
Steve began his employ with the City as our full time Building Maintenance Supervisor in March 2018. Steve attended Columbia High School and received his certifications from Polaris Career Center. His previous employ was with Metis Construction. Some of Steve’s credentials include; licensed HVAC, boiler operator license, CFC certification (refrigerants), experienced skills in construction, CPR and First Aid Certified. Has knowledge of operating an excavator, skid steer and holds a CDL license.
Hard work is not foreign to Steve. He worked on his family owned farm all his life. Steve said he grew up raising cows. In Steve’s spare time, he continues to run his family-owned farm. Right now this season lends itself to making hay where his evening and weekend times are spent. As a hobby, Steve enjoys raising turkeys and has 100 chickens. He also enjoys gardening.
Steve enjoys the diversity of his City job. He oversees and performs all routine maintenance of the City’s operating systems including plumbing, electric and HVAC systems. Performs carpentry work as needed. Other duties include maintenance of generators, fire protection, backflow prevention, elevators, and sprinkler systems.
Some projects Steve has completed were replacing the Police HVAC unit, assisted in repairing a major water leak in the cooling tower, has performed roof repairs to one of the service buildings that has been leaking, replaced the hot water tank at one of our Service garages, light construction in City Council Chamber room, performed an audit of our HVAC system and heat pumps to run more efficiently and has started the LED conversion at City Hall.
Steve has been married for 7 years and has a two-year old daughter, Emma-Leah.
