Construction Notice for Ledge Acres Rd.

Dear Residents of Ledge Acres Road:

This letter is to notify you of the upcoming paving work that will be taking place on Ledge Acres Drive, during the 2018 season.  This work will take place between Ledge Road and approximately address 9480 Ledge Acres Road.  This work zone corresponds to the lower section of Ledge Acres Road, which is the portion of the road that is serviced by roadside drainage ditches. Paving of Ledge Acres Road is part of the $5,354,426.00 Road Program Contract “B” being completed by the City of Macedonia this year. The City’s contractor for this program is Specialized Construction.  This program is made possible by the previous passage of Issue 3 in May of 2017.

This work will consist of recycling the existing asphalt pavement and placing two lifts of asphalt over the recycled base.  This will result in a completely reconstructed asphalt pavement.  This reconstructed pavement is a higher performing and longer lasting road than traditional simple resurfacing projects.  For additional detailed information regarding the recycling process please go to city’s website

During construction, the street will remain open, traffic will be directed around the work zone by flag persons. Please proceed slowly through the construction area and do not park on the street while construction is taking place.  Garbage and recyclable collections will continue to be on the normally scheduled day.  This paving work will not interrupt mail service.

Along streets with roadside ditches, it is important to note that in addition to the paving of the travelled lanes, the first two feet of all drive aprons will also be paved.  This is done to insure a smooth transition between the newly paved roadway, and the existing driveways.  For your reference, attached to this notification is a photo of what each driveway will look like upon completion.  It should also be noted that a new gravel berm will be installed along the edges of the final asphalt pavement.  This berm provides support for the asphalt roadway and reduces the amount of cracking along the edge of the new asphalt.  It is not designed to be a part of the hard surface for traffic.   This berm is soft when it is initially installed, and it will solidify with time.  As such, we ask that pedestrians and bicyclists make every effort not to walk or ride over the berm for the first three weeks after installation.

Throughout the duration of the project, you will notice some periods of time in which the Contractor is not working on your street.  These intended down time periods occur in between different phases of the project, and these down time periods will allow the City to properly assess the road as we proceed.  Please note that all work will be completed in the 2018 season.

We realize that road construction is an inconvenience to our residents. Your patience and cooperation throughout this entire process is greatly appreciated. While we have tried to plan for every contingency, there are times when something unexpected occurs.  Naturally, the City will make every effort to rectify any issues that arise.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact City Engineer Joe Gigliotti at (440) 439-1999 or email him at
