Open Period for Accepting Application: Completed applications accepted no sooner than Wednesday, January 3, 2019 and thereafter through Wednesday, January 23, 2019 (except Monday, January 21st, Presidents Day) between 8:00 a.m. and 4 p.m., M-F. Only the first 100 completed applications will be accepted for testing. No application will be accepted after 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2019– NO EXCEPTIONS! Falsification of any portion of application will result in immediate disqualification. Completed applications may be returned in person by applicant, applicant’s representative or mailed to the attention of Macedonia Civil Service Commission and whether hand- delivered or mailed must be received by the City no later than 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

Non-Refundable Filing Fee of $20: Cash, check or money order payable to City of Macedonia due at the time completed application is filed (received). Application will be rejected if fee is not included.
Wages & Benefits: Per contract, salary range based on experience – $50,737-$66,716.60; Annual shooting bonus- $2,250. Clothing allowance and shift differential added to base salary. Other benefits: medical, dental, vision and life coverage. [Prior service: Any appointment transferring from another public agency to Macedonia as a full-time police officer shall be credited with unused balance of their accumulated sick leave up to a maximum of 960 sick hours]

Qualifications: Must be a U.S citizen. Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent and be 21 years of age at time of application. Must possess valid Ohio drivers’ license and must currently be commissioned in Ohio as a peace officer, or have taken and passed within last 2-years an OPOTA certification exam or be currently enrolled in an accredited police academy and be fully graduated at time of appointment. Documentation must accompany application.

Written Exam: Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 6:30 p.m., Macedonia City Center, 9691 Valley View Road, Community Room, Lower level. Photo ID required.
Additional Credit: Given to candidates with passing grade of 70%; 5 points with minimum 2-years police officer experience; 5 points for associate degree in Criminal Justice and 5 points for military service. (DD 214 stating honorable discharge must be provided) Documentation must be on file with Macedonia Civil Commission no later than February 6, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.

Physical Agility Test: Administered by Tri C Police Training Academy, Western Campus, Parma, Ohio. Tri C-Certificate of Completion is valid for one-year from date of issuance. Candidates who do not possess a valid Certification of Completion are solely responsible for contacting Tri C at 216.987.3033 to schedule agility exam prior to Macedonia’s written exam per Tri C testing schedule: Exam offered Sunday, January 20, 2019, registration deadline January 16th. Candidates who do not submit the requisite Certificate of Completion with completed application MUST submit said certificate to the Macedonia Civil Service Commission no later than February 6, 2019 @ 6:30 pm.

Final review and certification of the eligibility list is at the sole discretion of the Macedonia Civil Service Commission.

Eligible candidate(s) required to take and pass psychological, physical and polygraph tests. Other testing includes EKG, drug screening (periodic drug screening during employment required) background check, and personal interview with the appointing authority. Eligible candidate(s) required to be a non-smoker and remain a non-smoker for duration of employment.
