Don’t Trash Your old appliances – recycle them!
Don’t trash your old refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, and other household appliances. Placing these items on the curb may send them to a landfill!
The Summit/Akron Solid Waste Management Authority (SASWMA) is sponsoring the annual Appliance Recycling promotion for Summit County. Last April, Summit County residents recycled 1,390 tons of white goods; this represents 13,900 unwanted refrigerators, washers, dryers and stoves.
Old appliances can be dropped off, at no charge, at City Scrap and Salvage (611 W. Wilbeth Road, Akron: 330-753-5051). Freon will be removed and the appliances will be recycled.
Pick up service (for a fee) is available to remove and recycle unwanted appliances from your home, garage, or yard. Call Dick’ll Do It at 1-877-ITEMSOUT (330.688.3773), Hairston Appliances at 330.434.6336, or Haulin N Such at 330.668.9942.
For Freon removal and recycling contact Hairston Appliances at 330.434.6336.
"Appliances and metals can be recycled all year round. During the month of April, these companies join SASWMA in promoting appliance recycling to Summit County residents,” states Executive Director Yolanda Walker. "This cooperative environmental effort works toward SASWMA’s mission of reducing waste in landfills and providing materials for local recycling markets."
For additional information regarding all of SASWMA’s recycling programs, visit our web site at www.saswma.org or call 330.374.0383. Click here for additional information. |
