Important news from NOPEC: The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved a comprehensive $275 million settlement with FirstEnergy, concluding the HB6 investigations and returning restitution directly to customers.
For more than eight years, NOPEC worked alongside the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel to hold FirstEnergy accountable for violations tied to HB6. This significant settlement is the result of NOPEC’s sustained advocacy on behalf of its member communities, including the City of Macedonia.
What this means for Macedonia residents:
⚡Residential bill credits: Typical residential customers are expected to receive approximately $65.61 in bill credits, based on 1,000 kWh per month, applied over three consecutive months.
⚡Support for vulnerable residents: $20 million from the settlement will fund low-income bill assistance, weatherization, and energy-efficiency programs to help those most in in need.
⚡Timing: Bill credits are expected to begin appearing on electric bills starting in February 2026.
