At tonight’s City Council meeting, Mayor Nick Molnar presented a proclamation honoring Emergency Dispatcher Becky Elias for her heroic actions during a critical 911 call that helped save the life of a 3-year-old boy.

A member of Macedonia’s dispatch team for 11 years, Dispatcher Elias received a call on Saturday, June 20, reporting that a nonverbal autistic boy was missing. Drawing on autism awareness training recently provided by the Autism Society of Greater Akron, she calmly gathered critical information that helped identify a nearby swimming pool as a possible location.

When the child was found in the pool, Dispatcher Elias provided life-saving CPR instructions over the phone until first responders arrived.

We are incredibly proud of Dispatcher Elias and the professionalism, compassion and quick thinking she demonstrated during this emergency. Her actions are a powerful reminder of the vital role our dispatchers play in protecting and serving our community.
