Congratulations Employee of the Month…Rachael Gambatese, Building Department
Rachael Gambatese is our Administrative Assistant in the Building Department. She began her employ with the City in April 2016. She attended the University of Akron and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in English. Prior to becoming full-time, she was a part-time employee at the Recreation Center where she worked the front desk and was a tot room attendant. Rachael also worked full time at JoAnn Fabrics for two years as a Buyer’s Assistant and Replenishment Analyst in the Merchandising and Inventory Departments.
Rachael will be testing for the Permit Technician certification this year, a requirement within the Building Department.
Rachael has called Macedonia her home all her life. Her parents, her husband, and her younger brother, Anthony, still reside in the City. Rachael’s mother, Linda Skrbin, also works for the City at the Recreation Center as a Fitness Instructor ever since it opened. Rachael was proud to mention her mom had won ‘Fitness Instructor of the Year’ in 2014.
When asked what she likes about the job she stated “no day is the same, every day is different.” Working in the Building Department is an on-going education process. There are many aspects of the job such as the plan review process, working up contractor fees, familiarizing oneself with residential and commercial document processing, and all of the terminology associated with it. Attending Planning Commission meetings and performing Public Records Requests have also been a routine part of the job involving time and research. Rachael enjoys establishing relationships and working with Contractors and Department Directors to get the job done.
In Rachael’s spare time she enjoys being with family, reading, yoga, baking, and walking her 2-year old Cockapoo!
Thank you Rachael for becoming part of the Macedonia Team!
